Calls to 1850/1890 numbers?
1850 and 1890 numbers are sometimes referred to as Call Save or LoCall numbers. Calls to 1850/1890 numbers are handled by operators in a different way than calls to geographic numbers. Geographic numbers are telephone numbers where part of the digit has a geographic significance, e.g. 01 for Dublin, 021 for Cork. 1850 and 1890 numbers are part of a group of numbers referred to as non-geographic numbers. These calls are not classified as national or local calls and therefore operators do not include calls to these numbers in any included free minutes offered as part of your plan monthly fee. Calls to 1850 numbers are charged to you at a flat per call rate. Calls to 1890 numbers are charged per minute, normally at local call rates for fixed line providers. Rates from mobile phones may vary so please check with your operator. If you are on a fixed line or mobile plan that includes a number of free local and national minutes, it may be better for you to call a geographic landline number, if there is one available, as this will be discounted as part of your included minutes. If you are not on a plan that has free local and national minutes included, calling the 1850 or 1890 number may be better value for you.
For example: ComReg has both a Locall number, 1890 229668 and a geographic number 01 8049600.
If you are on a plan that has a number of local and national numbers included with your monthly fee, it would be better for you to ring us on the 01 8049600 number as this will be deducted from your included minutes. However, if you are not on such a plan and you are calling from outside Dublin from a landline, the 1890 229 668 number would be best here, as it will be less expensive than the cost of a national call. Each plan on the callcosts site lists the individual prices for 1850 and 1890 numbers so please check these for further information.
